Barrio Expressions: Sunset High School Mural, November 18, 1977
Juan Espinoza on location at Sunset High School in Hayward, talking to students involved in painting and re-painting sections of the mural at the school. The mural was originally painted in 1971, but was damaged by outsiders starting in 1974. This is followed by footage of lowrider cars in school parking lot and short comments from students about the school and a brief interview with the school principal. Barrio Expressions was a community access television show documenting Chicanx and Latinx life in the East San Francisco Bay Area. It ran on Hayward cable television from 1976-1985. While the shows were filmed primarily in the Hayward area, they include stories from around the East Bay and San Jose. The show aired weekly, with 26 episodes per year.
