Nick, Mary, and Louis's mother) holding Nick and Ruth's daughter Judy, Mary B. Toccalini (d.1995), Louis (1918-2012), Luka (1883-1953, Nick, Mary, and Louis's father), Mario Toccalini (d. 1987, kneeling, Mary's husband) and Patti Bilicich (Nick and Ruth's older daughter). Luka Bilicich immigrated at age 16 to the United States from the island of Vis, Dalmatia to avoid compulsory military service. He arrived in 1899 to join three older brothers and a sister, first in Santa Cruz, CA. Later, he went to Grants Pass, OR to live with his sister Margaret and worked in the fishing industry, and then San Jose where he met his future wife Frances Chargin (Kirigin). He lost his leg at a young age. He worked in Frances' family restaurant and they married in 1909. They first moved to Santa Cruz but Frances preferred Watsonville. They moved to Watsonville in 1910 and raised four children (Nick, Mary, Antoinette, and Louis). Luka worked in orchards, the packing company Blas Pista Company, LG Bachan Co., and others. They lived on 2nd Street but were flooded out in the Flood of 1911. They purchased a home on 117 Lincoln St, Watsonville., Date refers to the original created date. Copy displayed.
