The Rancho Seco oral histories document the story of the, now closed, Rancho Seco Nuclear Power Plant located in Ione, California. The oral histories present a broad range of perspectives and attitudes. Issues included plant safety
environmental concerns
down time due to technical problems resulting in increased cost to SMUD users
organizational structure and relationship of managers, staff and contractors
closed board meetings
and plant operations that were eventually closed down by voters. Daniel D. Whitney was a Nuclear Engineer with SMUD, later taking on more senior positions within the station as Senior Nuclear Engineer, Engineering and Quality Control Superintendent, Supervisor of Generating Planning, Assistant Nuclear Operations Manager, Electric System Planning Department Manager, and eventually as Senior Staff Consulting Engineer.
