Sam Maloof is a renowned contemporary furniture craftsman and woodworker. In 1985 Maloof was the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation fellowship, the first craftsman to receive this award. His works are in several museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Former U.S. presidents, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan own Maloof rocking chairs.
