Dr. Juan Martinez was the head of the Mexican Studies Institute at San Francisco State College and advisor of Brown Berets and Mexican American Student Confederation. MAYO (Mexican American Youth Organization) was a Chicano student and youth organization focused on civil rights issues. Their 5th conference took place in San Francisco.
