Description
Bouche discusses his family history in Brittany, French education, the French army, and his apprenticeship in wood carving. He speaks about his experience as a immigrant and his decision to become an American citizen. He compares that experience to that of Japanese Americans during World War II. He covers the living and teaching conditions at the Manzanar Relocation Camp, including mentions of Ralph Merritt, the camp director, and Ansel Adams, the official camp photographer. He taught industrial arts in the high school at Manzanar, a relocation camp for Japanese Americans in Owens Valley, California, during World War II.Additional Descriptive Notes: Tapes 01 and 02: 1993-01-21 Tape 03 and 04: 1993-01-28 Tape 05: 1993-02-04
