Description
Key Words: Claremont Courier
The Weinberger family publishes the Claremont Courier. Jan and her husband, Marty, bought the Courier in 1956. She describes the transition and reaction in the community after she and her husband published their first paper, which had a different style and layout than under the previous owner, Stanley Larson. “There was . . . a lot of hurt feelings in the community thinking that Stan would give up the New York Times format. Then they came in trance with the fact that it was going to be a different graphic way of looking and presenting the history of Claremont.” She and her husband traveled to Arizona to find another paper who was printing in this new style, called offset lithography, because no other paper in Southern California was using it at that time.
