Description
5 16mm reels circa 1930's Reel #1- 7" reel labeled "Packing House PMO Assn" Reel #2- 7" reel labeled "Bank" Reel #3- 7" reel labeled "Flintridge" Reel #4- 10" reel labeled "Our Trip to Mexico with the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce" Reel #5- 15" reel labeled "Armistice Parade Anaheim" - "Royer-Lewis-Tuffree Trip to the Border" - "El Rodeo Barbecue." There final titles on the reel appears to be an "Our Gang" short. The films came from an estate sale of the Tuffree Family, a prominent Orange County pioneer family who stayed active in the community for decades. Civil War veteran Col. J. K. Tuffree came to Anaheim in 1876 and became manager of the Abel Stearns Rancho. He later owned his own citrus ranch in Placentia which his children would take over and continue to run the Abel Stearns Ranch. The films most likely belonged to James who was a citrus rancher, and served on board of directors of the Placentia Bank of America for 40 years. James was also a world traveler who shot thousands of feet of film that the US government called in to help map seldom traveled areas during the lead up to WWII.
