Description
Excerpts from a mass meeting about the battle for People's Park held at Merritt College in Oakland on the evening of May 16, 1969. The meeting was originally sponsored by the Berkeley Coalition. Those attending it voted to have a member of the People's Park Negotiating Committee, Frank Bardacke, chair the meeting. Afterwards, they discussed the causes of the crisis and possible strategy and tactics for the future, and voted on several proposals. Speakers heard here include Carrie Kunin, Ron Yang, Paul Xavier, Jenny[sp?] Goldman, Tony Camejo, Patrick Carey[sp?], Bob Mandel, Mario Savio, and Ron Medich. The meeting was held in Oakland because a state of emergency had been proclaimed for Berkeley by Governor Ronald Reagan and included a prohibition on all public meetings. This program aired a year after the incident, as part of a series of programs on Pacifica Radio's KPFA-FM examining what happened that day. The program is produced and narrated by Carol Amyx.
