Description
Nicholas Kerhoulas was born in Roseville, California on July 23, 1913. He was the son of Greek immigrants Georgia and Peter Kerhoulas. His father Peter Kerhoulas was born in a little village outside of Sparta. His mother, Georgia Triantos, was born in Vrestana. Peter immigrated to the United States first in 1895, he then sent for a bride, Georgia, to join him in 1904. Initially, trying to capitalize off of proximity to gold mines, Peter and Georgia opened up a series of restaurants in Grass Valley, Oroville, and Marysville. They frequently relocated due to the closing mines. After settling in Roseville, Peter worked for the Pacific Fruit Express (PFE). Growing up, Nicholas joined his father at the PFE at age ten. After grammar school, Nicholas held a job at the Southern Pacific rail yard, working there through World War II.
