Description
California Centennial Commission placed a historical marker in 1949, commemorating the July 10, 1852 election held under this oak tree (left), east of Visalia, CA, forming the County of Tulare. The initial county seat was set at Woodsville, site of the first white settlement, about one-half mile south of the tree. This general area was known as the "Four Creeks Country." The tree also became known as "the Charter Oak."
