Description
Nisei female, born January 19, 1910 in Mayfield, California (now Palo Alto). Mitsuko�s life experiences exposed her to fewer Japanese traditions than sister Shizuko. Her mother died when she was eight, she moved to San Francisco with two older sisters and completed high school there. She spoke only English, took a secretarial course and worked for an insurance office. When she was thirty-two, just prior to evacuation, she moved to Sacramento. She was interned at Walerga, California and Tule Lake, California. She left camp for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, then Chicago, Illinois where she did clerical work for two Christian organizations. She returned to San Francisco in 1965, never married and most of her friends were Caucasians.
