Description
Steve McCutchen was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1949. He became involved in the Black Panther Party in Baltimore and continued his activities when he moved to Oakland, California in the late 1960s. After leaving the Black Panthers, he continued his fight for racial justice as an educator in Oakland schools and in various political activities.
These interviews focus on African Americans in education. Steve McCutchen speaks about his life as a student in the Baltimore schools, including the process of segregation, about his involvement in the Black Panther Party, and about teaching in the Oakland public school system.
