Sacramento Update was a weekly thirty-minute radio show produced by the California Public Broadcasting Commission. The show was produced from March 1977 to December 1981 for broad distribution around the state for non-commercial/public radio stations. The California State Archives has every weekly episode (minus one) from July 4, 1980, to December 25, 1981.
The show reported on several controversial and important topics of the time, including Governor Jerry Brown's administration and policies, and the election of President Reagan and profiles of third-party presidential candidates. The show also discussed reapportionment following the 1980 federal census, Willie Brown’s election as Speaker of the Assembly, and federal budget deficits amid the economic recession. The show included coverage of environmental issues such as the Peripheral Canal and water conservation policies, malathion and Mediterranean Fruit Fly, coastal oil drilling, and nuclear energy.
Topics discussed include: Governor Brown, Attorney General Deukmejian, and crime, raw milk, mass transit, financial cuts in Native American program and wind power.
