Description
Nisei female, born 1925 in Fife, Washington. Her parents were of the samurai class in Japan. The family moved to Arroyo Grande, California when Joy was three. Her parents taught at a Japanese language school. Mr. Nozaki was detained by the FBI prior to the family�s evacuation in 1942, when Joy was seventeen. Joy, her sister and mother were sent to Tulare Assembly Center and to Gila River, Arizona. The entire family reunited at Crystal City, Texas. Mr. Nozaki chose to return with his family to Japan. Conditions in war torn Japan were harsh but the entire family found jobs with the Sixth Army in Kyoto. Joy returned to California, attained her BA and MBA and was research specialist for the State of California.
