Stella Demas was born in Greece in a village outside of Tripolis called Palandriom in 1910. Stella grew up in Greece with her mother. Her father spent time traveling between the United States and Greece. While in the United States her father worked in coal mines in California and Chicago. Her mother never left Greece and worked in farming. Stella left school in the fourth grade and worked alongside her mother farming and selling produce at the market in Tripolis. in 1930 at the age of 20, Stella married and moved to Sacramento with her first husband Angelo. In 1935, he passed away and Stella was left with her three year old son, George Ballis. A year later, Stella married business owner Peter Demas and had three more children. Including her youngest son, Louis Demas who later married Marilyn.
