Description
Issei female, born September 10, 1900. Mr. and Mrs. Akiyama had many low paying jobs in the Florin area but eventually owned the Florin Fish Store for eighteen years. Their four sons went to Japan for further education as teenagers
one was conscripted into the Imperial military. After December 7, 1941, Mr. Akiyama was detained by the FBI in Crystal City, Texas. Mrs. Akiyama, (age 42) and three sons were evacuated to Fresno Assembly Center, Jerome Relocation Center then to Crystal City to join Mr. Akiyama. In December 1945 the family was repatriated to Japan. Their fish store was burned down during their internment and they had no home. They endured extreme hardships in postwar Japan and Mrs. Akiyama had many low paying jobs. The family was reunited in Sacramento after six years in Japan.
