Segment 1 (sound): Dennis Rowedder interviews University of California President Dr. Clark Kerr, about Ronald Reagan's criticism of the university and his promise to investigate the university. How does Kerr feel about this? Kerr says Reagan's proposals and campaign are partisan, so he's not going to comment on that, but Reagan has said that the investigator would be John McCone, and he has a lot of high personal regard for McCone. Rowedder asks if he has any changes in mind for the university, given the criticism? Kerr says no, the university is going along just beautifully, it's growing rapidly in size and distinction. He's asked if other universities may have benefitted from all the criticism of the University of California system. Kerr answers that the UC system has always been a bellwether, given its size and name, and so everyone watches them anyway. What they have learned from Berkeley is that they need to pay more attention to the undergraduate students, who have been neglected at many institutions.
Segment 2 (silent): Outdoor picnic under trees, with brass band and barbeque.
