Aerial footage of California State Route 1, part of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). It includes footage of the highway along the Central Coast and Big Sur, including Bixby Creek Bridge. The footage also shows a portion of highway construction north of the Big Sur area. This film is part of Fred Farr's papers. It is labeled "Rte 1 from the air." Fred Farr served as California State Senator representing Monterey County from 1955 to 1967. Sen. Farr was an early proponent of environmental conservation efforts in California, and helped to establish California's State Scenic Highway System. The section of highway along the Big Sur Coast, which is featured in the film, was designated the first State Scenic Highway in 1965. In 1966, Sen. Farr joined First Lady "Lady Bird" Johnson at the official Scenic Highway designation ceremony at Bixby Creek Bridge.
