reactions to a John Muir quote "I care to live only to entice people to look at nature's loveliness." and Hyde's response "If I needed a manifesto this is it! This is what I am about in my life in photography." Hyde gives his response to a John Szarkowski critique of Ansel Adams' work and goes on to discuss his own early darkroom experiences and attendance at the first class at the California School of Fine Arts, Photography Department, under Ansel Adams with additional instruction by Minor White and Edmond Weston.
