Description
Oral interview with Anna Kelley, born April 17, 1907, in Carson City, Nevada. Stories include early years growing up at Kearsarge Station, southern Inyo County, the ethnic mix of railroad workers on the Narrow Gauge line, Chinese in the Owens Valley, the flu epidemic in the early 1900s, and life in Eastern California during the Depression years. Included as well are recollections of Mrs. Kelley's marriage to OK Kelley, the war years from 1940 through 1946, creation of Manznanar War Relocation Center, Kelley's work as the Welfare Director of Inyo County from 1942-1946, and her later years living in the town of Independence. Anna Kelley was an active participant in the community, the local schools, and at the Eastern California Museum. She initiated and achieved the acquisition of Engine 18 in 1957 for the Museum and the community through her connections with the Southern Pacific Railroad.
