Created Date
November 19th, 1972
Description
This tape comes from a large collection of 1/4 inch audio tapes collecting the rehearsal and performance recordings of the Mexican Players at the Padua Hills Theatre. Songs performed are typically based on Mexican folk songs and dances or other ancient Native Central American songs and chants. Some tapes also feature field recordings which the performances and songs at the Padua Hills Theatre were based on.
Tape 11 features recordings of musical pieces conducted and arranged by Mexican composer, Carlos Chavez. Songs recorded are Mexican folk and include Danza Centeotl de los Cuatro Soles, Xochipilli, El Venado, and La Paloma Azul. These songs were likely used by the theater's orchestra for rehearsal at Padua Hills.
