Description
Caucasian female, born 1926 in Ogden, Utah. Beverlee and her mother moved to Berkeley, California where she attended local schools with many Nisei who became her friends. In 1942, at age sixteen, these friends were evacuated. She asked a classmate, Michihiko Hayashida, to write to her. Despite intense anti-Japanese feeling of the time, she went to Tanforan Assembly Center to visit her friends. The appendix in the bound copy of the interview includes copies of letters from Hayashida from 1942-1946, Tanforan Assembly Center, Topaz Relocation Center, Boston University, military training camps, and Europe. Beverlee married, had a family, and obtained a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Counseling. Her work connected her to Dr. Satsuki Inas film Children of the Camps. Her contacts with Dr. Ina and Marion Kanemoto provide psychological insight to the internment experience. Hayashida is now in Hawaii and Beverlee in Sacramento.
