Description
This beautifully illustrated booklet includes thirty-seven hand painted figural drawings mainly representing Chinese Immortals (or deities) and whimsical figures. There is also a black line drawing of the logo for the 'Arctic Packing Co. Salmon.' The original artist is Ma Wing Chong (also known as M.W. The father of Ma Wing Chong, Kee Chinn, arrived in Auburn in the early 1850s and was a prominent local merchant and leader in the community.
Text is written in Cantonese and a portion of the illustrations have been roughly translated, including: Flying Golden Dragon, Fire God, Immortal Buddha, God with Three Eyes, Two-Faced Immortal, Three-Headed Buddha, Day and Night, Heavenly Old Buddha, Monkey King, Immortal, Three-Eyed Heavenly King, and Water God.
