This documentary takes us through the lives of inmates in California prisons beginning with evaluation and placement into an institution and assignment to a counselor. California Department of Corrections offers a number of educational and vocational opportunities to inmates such as electronic repair, television production, product production, nursing, and farming. Minimum custody inmates are eligible for placement into conservation camps which are administered with the Department of Forestry. These inmates can learn firefighting techniques. Many activities are available for leisure time. Inmates released from prison after their sentence are assigned a parole officer that will help with necessities of civilian life, such as locating suitable housing and checking on progress.
