This marker placed by the California Centennial Commission in 1949, marks the site of the first location tribes of the Yokut Indians of the California's San Joaquin Valley were required to settle at a reservation. It was begun in 1857 and called the Alta Vista Indian Reservation, and was located close to Porterville, CA. In 1873, it was moved about 10 miles southeast to a better location.
