The Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC) presents "The First is Free," first Sat. of each month free performances and demo at OACC. April and May Features Danongan Kalanduyan and the Palabuniyan Kulintang Ensemble. Percussive gong music of the Southern Philippines by a master musician. Saturday, April 3rd and Saturday, May 1st. Danongan Kalanduyan and his Ensemble perform various works for traditional gongs and drums of the Southern Philippines. Once prevelent in pre-colonial Philippines, the kulintang are an important part of the country's history and culture. This monthly series of free performances will bring to the public Asian and Pacific Islander performances and demonstrations in celebration of Bay Area cultural diversity.
