Jose Rubio moved to Claremont moved to Claremont in 1958 and was a Mexican Player at Padua Hills Theater. He and his wife raised seven children close to El Barrio Park. He describes how the park became the center of the Mexican Americans living in Claremont's East Barrio neighborhood. Before the park was built, the land was covered in brush. Soon after the park was built, the boys would play football there. After Padua Hills closes, Rubio worked as a janitor for the Claremont Schools.
