Theodore "Ted" Laliotis was born in 1939 in Epidoros, Greece. His father was a farmer and shepherd. Ted began high school in Nafplion and finished in Athens in 1956
thereafter he came to the U.S. and ended up in San Francisco where he had relatives
he first enrolled at USF and later transferred as a junior to UC Berkeley in 1962 majoring in engineering. He worked summers as an assistant to a draftsman at PG&E. In 1966 he married his wife Angie. After obtaining his master's degree, he worked for IBM and for 20 years at HP, where he rose to become director of emerging technologies. Ted served on the planning commission and city council of Los Altos for eight years, and he ran for state assembly in 1996 with the backing of David Packard. In the interview Ted also discusses Greek identity and family.
