Title
Map of Champion and Merrifield mines
Created Date
Circa 1905
Description
This is an early 20th-century map for the Champion mine and associated commercial claims located just west of Nevada City, California. The Champion group owned its namesake mine and about six others adjacent, including the Merrifield. Local mining periodicals of the time called these mines two of the most profitable in the state during this period. The survey map, completed by J.B. Treadwell, shows the bounds of each claim, and the extent of the mines and surface buildings across the properties, and is a good delineation of commercial mining development near Nevada City during the early 1900s.
