(4/8/68) KPFA broadcast of events following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr: Memphis march, Mrs. King Speech, Reverend Abernathy and Bayard Rustin on the problem of violence. Hubert Humphrey is to represent LBJ and Mayor Redding (Oakland) to represent California at funeral for King, meanwhile 55,000 troops deployed in cities -- curfew still imposed in D.C. 15,000 people marched in Milwaukee. Saigon attitude still uncertain - Lee Dumbar reports. Supreme court confirms Civil Rights Act. Black Panthers charged $40,000 bail each, and $63,000 for Eldridge Cleaver. Rally outside Oakland courthouse. Monday PFM march: Jack Weinberg's press conference and Mario Savio's speech. After Walter Cronkite breaks the news that Senator Mansfield says there wouldn't be a LBJ speech and no hurry on the housing bill. Part of M.L.K service in church (probably his taped speech).
