Description
Nisei female, born March 21, 1912 in Florin, California to immigrants from Hiroshima, Japan. She attended Florin Grammar School, a racially mixed school until she was in the fourth grade. Following graduation from high school in 1930, Alice worked in a doctor's office as an office secretary, bill collector, nurse, and janitor. She attended the Florin Japanese Methodist Church and was active in the Epworth League, an organization for young adults. She married Reverend Taro Goto on April 8, 1934. A
ice wrote and translated letters fro women whose husbands were arrested by the FBI. She was interned at Tanforan race track and then to Topaz Relocation Center. The hostility against husband and other Christian ministers was severe and threatening, so the family was moved out of camp by the government to Denver, Colorado. Postwar, she was a faithful helper to Taro as he served as a local pastor and superintendent. In the latter position, the family lived in Lodi. She was active in the Lodi United Methodist Church until poor health curtailed her participation. President Richard Nixon sent her a telegram when Taro died in December 1972.
