Bryce Ayres Denton was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1912 and moved to Los Angeles with his family in 1913. He graduated from UCLA in 1934 in the midst of the Great Depression. Looking for work, he had a few temporary jobs in Southern California during that summer. His uncle had worked for the Hotpoint plant in nearby Ontario when Mr. Denton was a young boy, and he had visited as a youth. In 1933, his uncle went back to work for Hotpoint, which by this time had become part of the General Electric Company. Knowing this, Mr. Denton applied for as was offered a job with the General Electric Hotpoint Works in Ontario, California in 1934, and he worked for the plant for the next four decades. These recordings focus primarily on the history of the General Electric plant in Ontario and his experiences and memories working for General Electric. Mr. Denton was instrumental in the acquisition of the General Electric Hotpoint manuscript collection held by the Ontario City Library, and these recordings complement the collection.
