The SFMTA Photo Archive holds in its collection negatives and prints made by transit photographers of the San Francisco Municipal Railway, United Railroads and Market Street Railway. SFMTA Photo preserves, cares for and makes images accessible as a resource for the public and to support the work of the SFMTA. SFMTA Photo has 20,000 digitized images of San Francisco street views, architecture and transit including streetcars, cable cars, buses and infrastructure, all with searchable keywords. Our collections go back to 1903 and include images of the 1906 Earthquake and Fires.
The SFMTA Photo Archive's digital collection at California Revealed consists of moving images from the 1930s to 1970s. The films cover a wide range of subjects related to transportation in the San Francisco Bay Area.
