The Placer County Museums Division collection consists of audiovisual material (audio) from the 1940s. A majority of the collecton contains recorded oral histories of the DeWitt General Hospital, located in Auburn, California, during World War II. The hospital served the morale and physical well-being of many troops recovering from the war.
The Placer County Museums Division manages seven museums and maintains an Archive and Collection Center with a public reading room available for researchers. Archival and museum collections have been accumulated by this facility since 1948 and includes privately donated collections as well as official government records dating back to the establishment of Placer County in 1851. Our mission is to collect, preserve, interpret, and share the history of Placer County and its significant relationship to larger themes in California and American history.
